The Consellería de Innovación e Industria through the Directorate General for Research, Development and Innovation is the body responsible for the structuring, planning, coordination, implementation and follow-up of actions related to the promotion of research under the powers of the government of Galicia.
The Directorate General for Research, Development and Innovation is responsible for the Galician Research, Development and Technological Innovation Plan whose main purpose is funding research through both financial support and measures to generate support for R&D and Innovation projects, networks, innovation awareness, technology transfer, etc. The current Galician Research, Development and Technological Innovation Plan 2006–2010, has a general budget that shall not be below the threshold of 800 million Euros. The current one includes three types of programmes: horizontal programmes, general programmes and sector-based programmes. In brief, it is a plan that aims at working together with the National scientific research, development and innovation plan and with the European Framework Programme for research, demonstration and technological development in order to increase the available resources in the Galician innovation system.
Climate Change Research Funding
The Galician Research, Development and Technological Innovation Plan (2006-2010) includes priorities for Sector Based Programmes and Critical Technologies programme related to Climate Impact and other research areas. These programmes support R&D and Innovation in Universities, Research Centres, Technology centres and firms and main attention is given to co-operation among agents in order to support to innovation in companies. For the field of Climate Change, the Plan includes a programme “Environment and Sustainable Development” and overall over 2,5 M€ per annual competitive call are invested in this programme.
