The Hungarian Ministry for Environment and Water (KvVM) is the governmental institution, responsible for the environmental, nature conservation and water issues and policies. It is the role of the Minister of the Environment to co-ordinate, support, and assess research aimed at understanding the state of the environment, or at producing developments targeting protection of the environment, is to be treated and subsidised as a high-priority, and to ensure fulfilment of state environmental protection research objectives, in co-operation with the minister responsible for scientific research. There was launched a scientific, strategic plan, for the years 2003-2007, titled "The Current Status and Future Objectives of Research and Development in the Areas of Environmental Conservation and Water Affairs". One of its main directions is the "Research into Global Climatic Change".
